Pik-A-Dilly RV Centre General Manager, Ryan Main says he is pleased to see women take an equal interest in camping but it doesn’t surprise him. “We are a family-focused business and have been operating in Brandon since 1962. We’ve definitely seen changes over the years but we’ve always seen women in a very active role in the purchase and selection of a camper.” In fact, the most recent analysis here in the dealership shows that almost 50% of sales inquiries come from women.

Pik-A-Dilly RV Centre also employs and supports women in their pursuit of trade certification. Main notes, our Service Department is led by Heather Arthurson. She’s been in the business for 29 years and is one of the best-known Master Certified Service Technicians in Canada. She has had significant input into the industry and is a wealth of knowledge. Our clients ask for Heather by name. He adds, “They know she’s the best at diagnosing and resolving RV issues. She’s also the one to go to bat for our clients on their warranty and insurance claims.”

Pik-A-Dilly RV Centre is also home to Alison Dawson a Recreational Vehicle Service Technician in pursuit of her Red Seal Journeymen’s Certification. Dawson notes “I wanted to get into this industry because the skills make me more capable and purposeful as a person. The skills are transferrable and it’s really interesting work, covering plumbing, electrical, carpentry, gas fitting and more.” Dawson adds “I’m especially grateful to be able to work under Heather. Having another woman to work for and learn from has removed some of the typical barriers and I feel like I’m learning faster and being given more challenging tasks regularly.”

Pik-A-Dilly is pleased to recognize these two fine tradespeople on International Women’s Day and encourages more women to get into the RV business. “It’s a rewarding career and we can always use more capable, skilled people like Alison and Heather” says Main.
