“Do you have anything with bunks?”   “I’m looking for something with bunks…”

Seems like every call this week has been from a family eager to try camping with their kids this summer. These are the calls we love to receive. It’s a sure sign of Spring! It’s like birds singing or Dairy Queen opening for the season. We know that when families start planning for summer fun, good things are on the way.

So, what do we have with bunks?  In general, there are three styles of bunk accommodations. In pre-owned trailers you will typically find single bunks. Some may have the single on top and a double on the bottom. The bunks of trailers even of 5 or 10 years ago were more utilitarian and less luxurious. Ideal for those kids that run and play all day, collapsing into slumber the minute their head hits the pillow.

The new model trailers almost always have double over double bunks. The trend has been towards more space and more comfort for the kids. Often the bunk area will be equipped with charging stations and/or power outlets. Models like the Apex 290BHS have a ladder to the top bunk and a bright cheery window too. This would lend itself well to some early morning reading or some late-night stargazing from the comfort and safety of the camper.

Lastly, there are a few select models with bunk houses. A bunk house is an area that separates from the main living space by a door. Typically, it’s a sliding pocket door. This is ideal when it’s lights-out and sleep time for the kids, but the adults want to stay up a little longer. The kids can have their own private room. In the Aspen Trail 3210BHDS that bunkhouse can sleep 4-6 comfortably. There are beds on 3 sides of the room. Invite the cousins over! There’s room for all.

In summary, there’s good reason people call and ask about bunks. It’s the best way to get kids interested in camping and offer them a life-long connection with nature and family.
